Goal of the workshop

The workshop illustrates good practice in empowering teachers and expert associates in approaching professional guidance in practice and creating and implementing a sustainable professional development program.

Description of the workshop

The workshop highlights the Case Study based on “My smart choice” project whose aim of setting up pilot centres for professional guidance in two elementary schools for providing learners with information and knowledge in choosing their secondary school.

The presentation focuses on the following main components of project as: aim and objectives, target group, sustainability and description of project.

Project description: Professional guidance or “lifelong professional guidance” is an extremely important line of work since the earliest age of formal education.

As people spend most of their life working, their professional choices are often one of the most important decisions of their lives.

However, the choice of the first profession, program and school does not have to determine an individual’s line of work for the rest of their life.

Numerous changes in today’s labour market also condition one’s change of profession.

Accordingly, while choosing the first profession, it is very important to make a decision based on the knowledge of personal competences, information about education, training, characteristics of work and possibilities of employment.

Considering this, the activities of lifelong professional guidance are very important, because each individual needs professional help in their professional development.

Accordingly, the goal of professional development is a systematic support to the learner, a support which is integrated in the implementation of the school curriculum since the very beginning of formal education.

Along with expert associates, a part of tasks dealing with professional development need to be done by teachers.

The connection of school with the world of labour, the encouragement of the professional preparedness, and professional guidance are realized through direct work with learners in the educational process of some school subjects and a class teacher.
